JAC Declares Relocation Debate ‘Closed’: Chakma–Hajong Communities Stand Firm in Arunachal Pradesh
The Joint Action Committee (JAC), representing major Chakma and Hajong organizations in Arunachal Pradesh, has strongly opposed the recent social media call for a debate on the relocation of the Chakma and Hajong communities.
In a statement issued from Diyun, Changlang District, the JAC clarified that the issue of relocation “is not up for discussion.”
> “Relocation is not acceptable and will not be accepted. The matter is closed,” the committee declared, calling the debate proposal “unnecessary, misleading, and a waste of time and energy.”
The JAC further noted that the proposal was made without consulting the committee or its member organizations, describing it as an attempt to sensationalize a deeply sensitive issue rather than find solutions.
The committee urged community members to stay alert and not fall prey to false propaganda or divisive narratives.
Earlier, JAC representatives met Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Namsai MLA Zingnu Namchoom, and Doimukh MLA Nabam Vivek to present the collective sentiments of the Chakma and Hajong people, reaffirming that relocation remains non-negotiable.
Reiterating its stance, the JAC said the Chakma and Hajong communities will “neither move nor be moved” from Arunachal Pradesh, where their forefathers have lived and contributed for over six decades.
The committee’s stand was powerfully reaffirmed during the “Referendum Rally” held on September 26, 2025, where thousands endorsed the historic resolution — “Murileyo Idu, Baajileyo Idu” (We live and die here).
While rejecting relocation, the JAC emphasized peace, coexistence, and constructive dialogue.
> “We urge all concerned to focus on harmony, understanding, and cooperation under the sovereign Republic of India,” the statement concluded.
