New Delhi Today 28th May 2023 scheduled to inaugurate by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The New Parliament House in New Delhi scheduled to be the seat of the Parliament of India. It will house the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha which are lower and upper houses respectively in India's bicameral parliament.
As part of India's Central Vista Redevelopment Project, a new parliament building was constructed in New Delhi. Once inaugurated, it will serve as the seat of the Parliament of India, which currently occupies Parliament House (built in 1926), which is situated near new parliament.
At a distance of 750 meters from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, it is located on Sansad Marg which crosses the Central Vista and is surrounded by the Vijay Chowk, India Gate, National War Memorial (India), Vice President's House, Hyderabad House, Secretariat Building, Prime minister's office and residence, ministerial buildings and other administrative units of Indian government.
Proposals for a new parliament building to replace the existing complex emerged in early 2010s on account of stability concerns with older structure. A committee to suggest several alternatives to the current building had been set up by then-Speaker Meira Kumar in 2012. The present building, a 93-year-old structure, is deemed to suffer from inadequacy of space to house members and their staff, and is thought to suffer from structural issues. Despite this, the building is deemed to be important to India's national heritage, and plans are in place to protect the structure.
