Kolkata: On 8 June 2026, Kolkata experienced strong winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h along with heavy rainfall, causing trees to fall and waterlogging in several areas. These weather disturbances affected normal life across the city.

Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is undergoing a political crisis following the resignation of Mayor Firhad Hakim, leading to uncertainty in new leadership. Additionally, a meeting of TMC councillors was canceled amid the turmoil. In Regent Park, a 65-year-old senior citizen fell victim to a cyber scam known as the "digital arrest," losing approximately ₹4.4 crore, with police actively investigating the case.

In another incident, a biker assaulted a traffic sergeant on duty near Beckbagan naka and has been arrested. On the development front, West Bengal is initiating the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY scheme to extend health coverage to millions. Furthermore, Kolkata Metro announced plans to add 60 new modern trains over the next five years, alongside major railway projects in the state.
