Farmers' association demands action against high fertilizer prices

Bidar: Alleging that fertilizers are being sold at prices higher than the market price in various areas of the district, the Karnataka State Farmers' Association and the district unit of the Green Army today submitted a joint request to the Director of Agriculture to take action against the guilty shops.

The 2026 monsoon season has started and due to the unavailability of adequate quantity of fertilizer in many Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PKPS) in the district, farmers are depending on private markets. However, although the fixed market price of DAP fertilizer is Rs.1350, some traders are saying that they will provide fertilizer only if they pay Rs.1800, the association's district president, Shrimant Biradar, has complained.

Farmers who refuse to pay additional money are being sent back saying that there is no stock of fertilizer. Farmers are in trouble due to this, they have demanded that legal action be taken against the guilty shops immediately and steps be taken to ensure that the farmers get fertilizer at the prescribed price.

Otherwise, they will lay siege to the office of the Joint Director of Agriculture and launch a fierce protest. The leaders of the association have warned that if any untoward incident occurs during the protest, the officials will be held responsible.

On this occasion, Karnataka State Farmers Association and Green Sene District Unit District Honorary President Sidramappa Andure and District General Secretary Dayanand Swami Sirsi were present.
