URS OF HAZRAT SHAH JAHANGIR (II) MAWLANA ABDUL HAI (QSA)
URS OF HAZRAT SHAH JAHANGIR (II) MAWLANA ABDUL HAI (QSA)
We are wishing everyone a blessed URS (annual commemoration of passing) of the great Sufi Saint, Hazrat Shah Jahangir (II) Mawlana Abdul Hai Fakhrul Arifin (Qaddas Allahu Sirrahu).
Hazrat Shah Jahangir Fakhrul Arifin (Qaddas Allahu Sirrahu) was born on 14 Shawwal, 1276 A.H. (May 6, 1860). He was tutored in both the outward and inward sciences early by his shaykh and father, Hazrat Shah Jahangir (I) Mawlana Mukhlisur Rahman (Qaddas Allahu Sirrahu).
Just as his father, Hazrat Mawlana Abdul Hai (Qaddas Allahu Sirrahu) left his home as a teenager and went to Calcutta, India to pursue higher Islamic studies at Aliah Madrasah. He studied so intensely that he sometimes did not come home to Chittagong, Bangladesh for 7 years.
He later studied at the renowned Islamic learning center, Ferungi-mahal in Lucknow, India. He was such an avid reader during his young age that he was known to have read most or all the books at Khuda Bakhsh Library in Patna, India. Hazrat Mawlana Abdul Hai (Qaddas Allahu Sirrahu) once saw a dream where Hazrat Khidr (Alayhissalam) himself put his own saliva into the mouth of Hazrat Mawlana Abdul Hai (Qaddas Allahu Sirrahu) which signified the gift to absorb vast knowledge.
After extensive learning, Hazrat Mawlana Abdul Hai (Qaddas Allahu Sirrahu) became one of the top scholars of his time. He was also a renowned teacher at Ferungimahalli. He composed about 117 works in both Arabic and Persian.
However, he returned home to Chittagong, Bangladesh in 1312 A.H. (1895) at the age of 45 years old and become the successor to his father and shaykh, Hazrat Mawlana Mukhlisur Rahman (Qaddas Allahu Sirrahu) as the holy succession had previously been void for almost two decades before his arrival.
Hazrat Mawlana Abdul Hai (Qaddas Allahu Sirrahu) undertook many spiritual seclusions and was gifted the God given title, “Fakhrul Arifin.” He was a perfect (kamil) shaykh and a master of the inward and outward sciences. His miracles (karamat) were unlimited, which he ordered to be kept hidden during his lifetime. He instead encouraged Istiqamat (steadfastness) and disliked Karamat (miracles). He was surrounded by people all the time during his time in Chittagong for his spiritual blessings.
Hazrat Mawlana Abdul Hai (Qaddas Allahu Sirrahu) passed ahead at the age of 63 on 17th of Dhul Hijjah. His sacred tomb is in the world famous Darbar Mirzakhil Sharif in Chittagong, Bangladesh. His tomb is now a place of pilgrimage for people of all walks of life for spiritual blessings and for their prayers to be answered.
