Journalists Association Honours Meritorious Students, Senior Media Professionals

Mysuru, June 01: The Mysuru District Journalists’ Association honoured the children of journalists who excelled in the 2025–26 SSLC and PUC examinations and felicitated senior media professionals at a special programme held at the Rani Bahadur Auditorium in Manasagangotri on Saturday. Inaugurating the event by watering a sapling, G. D. Harish Gowda said journalists often do not receive remuneration that matches their dedication and hard work. Despite this, they continue to serve society by highlighting public issues and contributing to social progress.

He noted that the children of journalists are free to pursue careers of their choice and encouraged them to achieve success through dedication and perseverance. Harish Gowda also praised journalists for balancing demanding professional responsibilities while ensuring quality education for their children. Addressing the gathering, Sri Someshwaranatha Swamiji described journalism as a service to society and said newspapers continue to play a vital role in keeping citizens informed about local, national and global developments. He urged students to become knowledgeable, responsible and resilient individuals capable of facing future challenges with confidence.

The programme was presided over by Mysuru District Journalists’ Association President K. Deepak. Several meritorious students and senior journalists were honoured during the event. Among those present were Somashekar Keragodu, General Secretary of the Karnataka Working Journalists Association; Srihari Dwarakanath of GSSS Group of Institutions; entrepreneur Shivakumar; General Secretary Dharmapura Narayan; City Vice-President Ravi Pandavapura; Secretary Krishnoji Rao; Treasurer Suresh; Rural Vice-President Venkatappa; and Secretary Da. Ra. Mahesh, among others.
