West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Criticizes BJP Ahead of Elections
West Bengal: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a strong attack on the BJP, warning that any attempts to target the people of Bengal would be met with a robust political response. Speaking to party workers, Banerjee described any attack on Bengal's populace as a personal assault and pledged to campaign nationwide after the elections if necessary.
Banerjee accused the BJP of influencing the Election Commission and expressed concerns regarding the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. She emphasized that no genuine voter should be removed from the lists and alleged that efforts were underway to intimidate certain voter groups. Additionally, Banerjee criticized the BJP's handling of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), asserting selective distribution of forms and politicization of the issue ahead of elections. The BJP, in contrast, defended both the CAA and electoral roll revisions, affirming adherence to constitutional procedures and denying political bias. This exchange represents a significant escalation in the political rivalry between the All India Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of upcoming elections.
