Dr. Mandeep Kamal, Civil Surgeon, Conducts Surprise Inspection of Mahilpur CHC; Orders Strengthening of Services, Heat‑wave and Dengue Measures
Hoshiarpur/ Daljeet Ajnoha/May 29
Dr. Mandeep Kamal, Civil Surgeon of Hoshiarpur, made an unannounced visit to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Mahilpur and carried out a thorough inspection of the hospital’s ongoing health services, patient care and administrative arrangements. During the visit he toured several departments and issued directives to staff to further improve the quality of services.
The inspection began with a review of the labour room, where Dr. Kamal examined maternal and newborn care, availability of medical equipment, medicines and cleanliness. He instructed staff that any negligence in the care of pregnant women and newborns would not be tolerated and emphasised that emergency services must remain fully prepared at all times.
The Civil Surgeon then inspected the emergency department and the minor operation theatre. He directed doctors and paramedical staff to provide immediate and effective treatment to emergency patients, ensuring that no patient waits without receiving necessary care.
Dr. Kamal also reviewed the hospital laboratory, checking the quality of various tests, cleanliness and record‑keeping. He stressed that lab tests must be conducted promptly and according to standards so that accurate reports reach patients quickly.
During his rounds of the wards, Dr. Kamal spoke with admitted patients and their relatives to gather feedback on the services, medicines and staff behaviour. Many patients expressed satisfaction with the care they were receiving. He instructed staff to treat every patient with courtesy and cooperation and to ensure that no one faces undue hardship.
Taking note of hospital cleanliness, Dr. Kamal said hygiene is a vital component of healthcare. He directed cleaning staff and managers to ensure regular cleaning of each ward, toilets, corridors and surrounding areas to reduce the risk of infection.
He also checked the stock of medicines and instructed the relevant officers to keep all essential drugs available at all times. “No patient should be sent out for medicines,” he said, adding that providing better and free healthcare services through government hospitals is a priority for the health department.
In view of rising temperatures, Dr. Kamal issued instructions to intensify public awareness about heat‑wave precautions. He urged that people be advised to avoid going out in the sun during peak afternoon hours, to drink plenty of water, wear light clothing and pay special attention to children and the elderly.
He also ordered an escalation of anti‑dengue activities. Health department teams were instructed to carry out door‑to‑door checks for dengue larvae and to motivate residents to prevent water accumulation around their homes. Regular cleaning of coolers, plant pots, refrigerator trays and other potential water‑holding containers was emphasised to curb the spread of dengue mosquitoes.
Concluding his visit, Dr. Kamal reiterated the health department’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare and said efforts are ongoing to strengthen facilities at government health institutions.
