Betwa River Bridge Collapse in Uttar Pradesh

A major tragedy took place in Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh after an under-construction bridge over the Betwa River collapsed during heavy rain and strong winds in the early hours of Friday, May 29, 2026.

According to reports, the accident occurred between 2 am and 3 am near Morakandar Parsani village. The bridge was being constructed to connect Morakandar Parsani and Naithi villages.

Late night, during a storm and heavy rain, the concrete slab of the bridge suddenly collapsed. Many workers were standing below and above the structure to take shelter from the rain. At least six workers have been confirmed dead, while three others were injured in the slab collapse.

Some workers were trapped on a bridge pillar, and rescue teams began efforts to rescue them. SDRF, local police, and administration teams immediately reached the site and are working to clear the debris.

Authorities are now investigating construction quality, safety measures, and material standards. The accident has raised serious questions about construction safety.

Local administration and SDRF officials have confirmed the rescue operation. Initial reports indicate that storm and heavy rainfall are believed to be the primary causes of the collapse.

Worker safety should be a top priority at construction sites. Every infrastructure project needs proper safety standards and emergency protection systems to prevent such accidents from happening again.
