Odisha Crime Branch Arrests Prime Accused in Balianta Soumya Murder

Odisha Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Crime Branch has arrested Ashok Jena alias “Geda”, the prime accused in the Balianta Soumya murder case. Geda had been absconding since the incident and was apprehended during a late-night raid in Bhubaneswar’s Patia area. The arrest follows the collection of technical evidence and inputs from a viral video related to the case.

With Geda's arrest, the total number of accused in custody has reached 17. Investigators believe Geda played a significant role in the murder of GRP constable Soumya Ranjan Swain, whose death caused widespread outrage across Odisha. Crime Branch officials stated that about 10 suspects remain at large, with ongoing raids to apprehend them. The case continues to be a high-profile investigation in the state with further arrests expected.
