Count to Be Held at Six Municipal Council Centers: Deputy Commissioner
Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/May 28
— District Magistrate Ashika Jain has announced that, in accordance with the schedule issued by the State Election Commission, votes for six municipal councils in the district will be counted on Friday, May 29. Counting will begin at 8 a.m. at the designated counting centres.
The district magistrate has issued orders specifying the venues as follows: counting for Garhshankar Municipal Council will take place at Babbar Akali Memorial Khalsa College, Garhshankar; Haryana Municipal Council at G.G.D.S.D. College, Haryana; Tanda Municipal Council at School of Eminence, Tanda; Garhdiwala Municipal Council at Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Garhdiwala; Dasuya Municipal Council at School of Eminence, Dasuya; and Mukerian Municipal Council at S.P.N. College, Mukerian.
To ensure smooth conduct of the counting process, students attending these institutions have been given a full holiday on May 29.
Invoking powers under Section 163 of the Bureau of Indian Citizen Security Code, 2023, the District Magistrate has ordered a complete ban within a 100-metre radius of all the above counting centres located inside Hoshiarpur district against gatherings of five or more persons and the carrying of any weapons, sticks, or deadly items.
Officials noted that large numbers of candidates’ supporters and others often gather near counting venues during vote counts, raising the risk of untoward incidents and disruption of law and order. Such crowds can also compromise the secrecy of the counting process.
The District Magistrate said the district administration has made comprehensive arrangements to ensure that the counting proceeds peacefully, impartially and smoothly.
