World Menstrual Hygiene Day Observed Across District Poonch

Poonch, May 28, 2026:** Under the able guidance and dynamic leadership of Dr. Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, Chief Medical Officer Poonch, World Menstrual Hygiene Day was observed with great enthusiasm and commitment across all health institutions in District Poonch.

The district-wide awareness campaign focused on promoting safe menstrual hygiene practices, eliminating deep-rooted taboos, and creating an environment where menstruation is discussed openly and without shame. The program witnessed active participation from women, adolescent girls, ASHA workers, healthcare staff, and community members.

During the awareness sessions, detailed educational talks were delivered on proper menstrual hygiene management, correct use and scientific disposal of sanitary products, and busting long-standing myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation. Speakers strongly emphasized that **menstrual hygiene is not just a health issue — it is a matter of dignity, equality, and empowerment.

Free sanitary pads were distributed among women and adolescent girls. Special sensitization sessions were conducted for ASHA workers to equip them with knowledge and resources so they can effectively spread awareness in far-flung rural and hilly areas of the district.

The program concluded with participants taking a solemn pledge to continue promoting menstrual hygiene awareness and work towards making every girl and woman in the district confident and informed about their menstrual health.

Dr. Parvaiz Ahmed Khan reiterated that the Health Department Poonch remains fully committed to women’s health and will continue to organize such impactful community-based programs to ensure dignity and well-being of every woman in the District.
