Mysuru: Dr. Rajkumar Birth Anniversary Celebrated with Awards
Mysuru, May 28: Basaveshwara Cultural Foundation organised the birth anniversary celebrations of legendary actor Dr. Rajkumar at the District Journalists’ Hall, where distinguished personalities from various fields were honoured with the “Dr. Rajkumar Kalabhushana Award.” Awards were presented to S. Suma for contributions to education, Ambale Shivanna for folk arts, M. Nataraju for healthcare, Mallika Mahadevaswamy for organisation and social service, and B. Jayaramaraju for achievements in the field of art.
Speaking as the chief guest, K. Raghuram Vajapeyi said Dr. Rajkumar was a noble personality who saw divinity in every human being. Recalling his role during the Gokak agitation, he said the actor’s dedication and struggle for Kannada language and culture continue to inspire people even today. He described Rajkumar as an artistic saint, philosopher and cultural icon who shaped society through his films and values. “His words and actions were always in harmony, which is why he remains immortal in people’s hearts,” he said. Delivering the keynote address, writer Jayappa Honnali remarked that “Dr. Raj” himself was a great force and said explaining his greatness was like trying to measure the Himalayas while standing at its base.
He described Rajkumar as the eternal pole star of Kannada cinema and the most revered cultural icon among Kannadigas. “People of our generation considered him a spiritual guide. The lessons he learnt during his difficult childhood helped him uphold human values throughout his life. The innocence of his childhood remained with him forever,” he said. Maddikere Gopal, President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, presided over the programme. Among those present were Dr. M.G.R. Aras, Lion Golden T. Suresh and Foundation President Basavarajendra Swami, among others.
