Indian Army Veteran and International Author Naresh Das Vaishnav Nimbark Launches Global Mission to Restore the Lost History of Sanatan Vaishnav Bairagi Tradition
Haridwar, 26 May 2026 — Naresh Das Vaishnav Nimbark, a retired Indian Army Officer (Naib Subedar), Kargil War Veteran, and India's Representative to the United Nations Peace Mission in Sierra Leone (2000), has dedicated the second chapter of his life to an extraordinary mission — restoring the erased history of the Sanatan Vaishnav Bairagi tradition through 18 years of rigorous historical research and 10 internationally published books.
Born into a poor farmer's family in Village Ramnagar, Sanpeda, Tehsil Gannour, District Sonipat, Haryana, Nimbark rose through the ranks of the Indian Army, serving for 24 years. Having fought in the Kargil War and served under the United Nations in West Africa, he witnessed not only the injustice of war — but also the deeper injustice of erased history.
Upon retirement, he made a solemn promise — when the gun is put down, the pen will be picked up.
The Hidden History
According to Nimbark's research, verified from three independent historical sources, 745 Vaishnav Bairagi warriors laid down their lives during the Revolution of 1857 — yet their names appear in no textbook, no national monument, and no railway station across India.
Among the forgotten heroes documented in his research —
Mahant Ram Prasad Bairagi — who fought alongside revolutionaries at Kasauli against British forces in 1857 and was subsequently hanged at Ambala Jail by the British government.
Mahant Laxmi Bai — who fought shoulder to shoulder with Rani of Jhansi, and whose followers battled British forces to perform the last rites of the Rani of Jhansi.
Mangal Das Bairagi — martyred at Jallianwala Bagh in 1919.
Birdas Swami Rohnat — who fought British forces in Bhiwani, Haryana in 1857 and was tied to the mouth of a cannon and blown apart.
"This history was systematically erased," says Nimbark. "But erased does not mean destroyed. A soldier's duty is to complete the mission — and my mission is to restore what was taken away."
A Soldier's Second Battle
Nimbark's campaign for justice extends beyond the written word. As the National President of the Vaishvik Sanatan Vaishnav Bairagi Seva Sangathan (Registered), he has waged an institutional battle on multiple fronts —
He wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding that railway stations, national memorials, schools, hospitals, and community centres be named after Vaishnav Bairagi freedom fighters and warriors.
He submitted a formal application to the Railway Ministry on 24 October 2023, received by the Railway Board on 14 December 2023. The North Central Railway, Prayagraj, responded on 12 February 2024, citing existing policy as the reason for non-compliance.
He met the OSD to the Chief Minister at the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat — Gate Pass No. 239727, dated 24 April 2025 — demanding the installation of a statue of Shaheed Ram Prasad Bairagi at Subathu Cantonment.
He filed RTI applications under the Right to Information Act 2005, seeking historical records related to 1857 revolutionary Ram Prasad Bairagi. A First Appeal was filed on 19 March 2026, with a hearing conducted by the Haryana Directorate General of Prisons, Panchkula, on 20 March 2026.
He submitted demand letters — No. 032 to the Railway Ministry, No. 065 to the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, and No. 071 to the Prime Minister's Office on 16 March 2026.
Governments have responded with policy constraints and departmental redirections. But as Nimbark states — "A soldier does not stop until the mission is complete."
