Under VC Prof.(Dr.) Karamjeet Singh, GNDU Scales New Heights in National and Global Rankings

Guru Nanak Dev University has once again scripted a remarkable success story by achieving an impressive rise in the prestigious THE WEEK–Hansa Research Best Universities Survey 2026. Under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh, the University is witnessing unprecedented academic growth and national recognition, steadily moving ahead in leaps and bounds across multiple domains of higher education.

According to the latest THE WEEK–Hansa Research Survey 2026, Guru Nanak Dev University has secured the 14th position among multidisciplinary universities at the All India level, thereby emerging as the highest-ranked university in the region. Significantly, GNDU has surpassed Panjab University, which has been placed at the 15th position, while Chandigarh University has been ranked 23rd in the country.

In the North Zone rankings, GNDU has secured the 6th position, moving ahead of Panjab University, which has been placed at 7th rank. Only premier institutions such as Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Delhi, Banaras Hindu University, Banasthali Vidyapith and Amity University are ranked above GNDU in the North Zone category. This achievement reflects the rapidly rising academic stature and institutional credibility of the University at the national level.

The achievement becomes even more significant in the context of previous rankings, where Panjab University had remained ahead of GNDU. However, with sustained institutional reforms, quality enhancement initiatives, research orientation, digital governance, and academic innovation introduced under the leadership of Prof. Karamjeet Singh, GNDU has now emerged as the leading university of the region.

Adding another feather to its cap, Guru Nanak Dev University had only recently earned prestigious global recognition in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2026. On May 7, 2026, GNDU was ranked among the Top 100 Universities in the world under the category of University Brand and Reputation, securing the 78th position globally. The achievement placed GNDU among a select group of internationally recognised innovative universities and highlighted the growing global visibility and reputation of the institution.Ever since Prof. Karamjeet Singh assumed charge as Vice-Chancellor, the University has witnessed transformative progress in academics, research, innovation, international outreach, student support systems, and institutional governance. His leadership has infused fresh academic energy and strategic direction into the University ecosystem.

Faculty members, students, researchers, alumni, and educational stakeholders widely acknowledge that GNDU is rapidly emerging as one of the leading centres of higher education in the country.

Expressing happiness over the achievement, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh stated that the recognition is the collective outcome of the dedication, hard work, and academic commitment of the entire GNDU fraternity.

He said that the University has continuously focused on academic excellence, quality research, innovation, skill-oriented education, global engagement, and holistic development of students.Prof. Karamjeet Singh congratulated all faculty members, officers, employees, students, researchers, alumni, and affiliated colleges for this outstanding accomplishment.

He particularly appreciated the systematic and result-oriented efforts made by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) under the leadership of Dr. Jatinder Kaur and her dedicated team. He stated that the meticulous academic documentation, institutional benchmarking, quality assurance mechanisms, and continuous monitoring carried out by the IQAC played a pivotal role in securing these prestigious national and international recognitions.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that Guru Nanak Dev University would continue its journey towards becoming a globally respected institution rooted in academic excellence, innovation, Indian knowledge traditions, ethical values, and social responsibility.
