Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Waived Loans Worth 50,000 For Farmers

Chennai, May 26, AIMA Media Update News : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has delivered fresh good news to the farming community across the state. To support farmers who are struggling under the burden of agricultural investment costs, the government has issued official orders completely waiving crop loans amounting to up to ₹50,000. Consequently, over 1.4 million farmers in the state are set to benefit from this initiative. In this context, the move will place a financial burden of ₹2,044 crore on the Tamil Nadu government. The Chief Minister announced that this scheme applies to small and marginal farmers who availed loans from cooperative banks within the state between May 1 of last year and February 28 of this year. The government's latest decision will not only directly benefit hundreds of thousands of farming families but will also immediately lift the burden of their accumulated past debts.

The government has devised a systematic mechanism to ensure that this loan waiver scheme is not limited solely to those with loans under ₹50,000, but also provides relief to farmers with larger outstanding debts. A total of six slabs have been established to offer relief to farmers with outstanding dues ranging from ₹50,000 up to ₹100,000 and above. Based on these slab categories, farmers will receive loan waiver benefits in the form of additional concessions amounting to ₹20,000, ₹15,000, ₹10,000, and ₹5,000, respectively. The Chief Minister has issued directives to complete this entire process within 45 days to two months, in strict adherence to the guidelines laid down by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). With the objective of strengthening the agricultural sector, the Department of Cooperation has already completed all necessary arrangements to disburse these funds directly into the beneficiaries' accounts, ensuring that no financial hurdles arise in the process.
