State-Level Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Jayanti to be Celebrated on June 4 in Mysuru

Mysuru, May 22: The district administration will celebrate the State-level birth anniversary of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar on June 4 at Kalamandira, said Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Aishwarya. Speaking at a preparatory meeting held at the District Commissioner’s Office on Thursday, Aishwarya described Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar as an extraordinary visionary whose contributions to industry, education, irrigation and agriculture more than a century ago remain invaluable. She said the celebrations would be organised meaningfully so that his contributions reach every section of society and appealed to the public to participate in large numbers.

The celebrations will begin with floral tributes to Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar’s portrait in front of the Lakshminarayana Swamy Temple located within the Mysore Palace premises, followed by a procession. The procession will feature mounted police, a police band, dollu kunitha performances and various cultural troupes. A special musical programme on the life and achievements of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar will also be organised at K.R. Circle. Floral tributes will be offered to his statue during the procession route. Competitions including painting, quiz and essay writing will be organised for students in two categories — 7 to 14 years and 15 to 18 years. Winners will be awarded prizes during the main programme.

Officials were instructed to arrange drinking water and refreshments for procession participants, ensure invitation cards are distributed to dignitaries as per protocol and provide adequate police security at the procession and venue locations. Representatives of various organisations suggested organising special lectures on Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, screening documentaries about him at schools, colleges and important circles in the city and celebrating the Jayanti at the gram panchayat level as well. Among those present were Dr. M.D. Sudarshan, Assistant Director of the Department of Kannada and Culture; S.H. Nirmala, Assistant Director of the Information and Public Relations Department; senior writer Prof. Nanjaraj Aras; and organisation leaders S.K. Rajugowda, B.A. Shivashankar, Sosale Siddaraju, Jayashankar Mestri and Aravind Sharma, among others.
