The illustration showed Modi holding a fuel-station pipe resembling a snake, accompanied by an opinion article titled "A clever and slightly troubling man." The newspaper is being accused of harboring distorted Western views against India.

The controversy intensified amid ongoing disputes over Modi's press briefing in Norway. Journalist Hege Ling attempted to question Modi during the briefing, an interaction that went viral on social media. Subsequently, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs held a press conference addressing media questions, aiming to clarify the situation.
