Protest by Medical Shop Owners in Rajam Against Online Sale of Medicines ల

Vizianagaram District, Rajam: Andhra Pradesh.

Medical shop owners in Rajam staged a protest against the uncontrolled sale of medicines through online platforms. They organized a rally in the town and submitted a representation to Tahsildar K. Rajashekhar.
Speaking on the occasion, they alleged that medicines are being sold online without doctors’ prescriptions, proper registration, and without the supervision of qualified pharmacists. They expressed concern that people are being attracted with heavy discounts and supplied with substandard and harmful medicines.
They stated that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Central Government introduced the online system to ensure the availability of medicines to people during emergencies. However, some individuals are misusing it as an opportunity to run illegal medicine businesses.
They said medicines are not ordinary commodities and are directly related to public health, therefore strict regulation is necessary. The medical shop owners demanded that the government take stringent action against the online sale of medicines in order to protect public health.
S. Venkataraju, S. Sridhar, K. Giriraju, G. Narayanarao, K. Vamsikrishna, U. Hanumantharao, K. Appalaraju, K. Chiranjeevi, and medical traders from the Rajam region participated in the programme.
