***Hoshiarpur Photographers’ Association Submits Memorandum to Deputy Commissioner ***Demanding Ban on Loud DJs After 10 pm
Hoshiarpur — Daljeet Ajnoha/May 19
The Hoshiarpur Photographers’ Association on Tuesday submitted a written memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, demanding a complete ban on loud DJs after 10 pm and steps to ensure the safety of photographers. The memorandum, handed over by a delegation led by the association’s president, Harjap Singh, highlighted problems faced by photographers and objected to events that continue late into the night.
Speaking to reporters, Harjap Singh said that court and administrative orders prohibit the use of loudspeakers or DJs at high volume after 10 pm. “Despite this, many marriage palaces and private functions flout the rules and continue DJs until midnight or even 1–2 am,” he said. He noted that neighbouring states such as Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh enforce the law strictly, while Punjab lacks adequate enforcement.
Association members expressed concern about rising accidents and incidents of theft during late-night events. They said photographers face serious difficulties returning home when functions drag on, with a higher risk of road accidents and the danger of valuable cameras and equipment being stolen. “If events end on time as per regulations, photographers and other staff will be able to reach home safely,” the delegation stated.
The memorandum was submitted to the DC office and, in the absence of the Deputy Commissioner, handed to her PA, Lal Chand. The association urged the district administration and police to take immediate and strict legal action against marriage palace owners and DJ operators who violate the rules.
Present at the event were many office-bearers and prominent members of the association, including secretary Sanjeev Arora, chairman Lal Singh, senior vice-president Vipan Sharma, Harjinder Kumar, Naresh Kumar Saba, Karamveer Singh, Anil Kumar, Ashwani Kumar, Sukhvinder Singh Meera, Gurcharan Singh, Sharanjeet Singh, Barjinderjeet Singh, Gurmel Singh, Suresh Arora, Arsh Kumar, Sulinder Kumar, Jaswinder Kumar, Suraj Kumar, Kumar Sahib and Yuvraj Vikramjeet Singh, among others; a large number of local photographers also attended.
