Applications Invited for State-Level Footwear Making Competition

Mysuru, May 19: Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Leather Industries Development Corporation has invited applications for a State-level on-the-spot footwear making competition aimed at recognising and encouraging the craftsmanship, creativity, technical expertise and footwear-making skills of traditional leather artisans. The competition will be held on June 6 from 11 am to 5 pm at Karnataka Institute of Leather & Fashion Technology (KILT), Ullal Upanagar, Kengeri, Bengaluru.

Interested candidates can download the application form from LIDKAR Official Website and submit the filled form before May 30 by post to the corporation’s head office in Bengaluru. Applicants must attach supporting documents including caste certificate, profession certificate, Aadhaar card, proof of training received from the corporation, or E-Shram Card documents. Participants must belong to Scheduled Caste leather artisan communities such as Arundhatiyar, Chamar, Madiga, Mochi, Rohidas, Dhor, Samagar and other notified communities, or be family members of leather artisans. Applicants should be between 18 and 55 years of age.

Only contestants with valid documents will be provided boarding and lodging facilities. Participants are required to make only one pair of footwear for men or women. Kolhapuri-style footwear will not be considered for the competition. The prize money includes ₹50,000 for first place, ₹30,000 for second place and ₹20,000 for third place. A consolation prize of ₹10,000 will also be awarded.
