PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur organizes awareness camp for input dealers on balanced use of fertilizers

Under the ongoing campaign on the balanced use of fertilizers, PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra Hoshiarpur recently organized an awareness camp for fertilizer and seed dealers (input dealers) at its campus.

Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), PAU-KVK Hoshiarpur welcomed the participants and informed them about excessive and imbalanced use of fertilizers in several crops in Hoshiarpur district, which needs immediate attention. Keeping this concern in view and under the national campaign, KVK in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare organized this programme specifically for fertilizer and seed dealers. He also informed the participants about facilities available at KVK including the soil and water testing and encouraged input dealers to advise farmers to avail these services for scientific nutrient management and efficient fertilizer use. Dr. Bons also shared information regarding the biofertilizers recommended by Punjab Agricultural University for augmenting the production of kharif crops.

During the camp, Dr. Gurpartap Singh, Associate Professor (Agronomy) delivered detailed lecture on fertilizer management practices in paddy, kharif maize and other crops. He also stressed upon the use of green manuring and farm yard manure. He elaborated that Phosphorus application is not required in kharif crops, if the recommended dose has been applied to the previous rabi season crop.

Dr. Karmvir Singh Garcha, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science) advised the participants to promote soil test based fertilizer application in vegetables and fruit crops. He encouraged the participants about the use of PAU recommended short duration paddy varieties such as PR 126 and the newly released variety, PR 133.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Simranjit Singh, Agriculture Development Officer, Hoshiarpur, informed the participants about record keeping of fertilizer and seed sale. He also informed about various services offered by the Department for the betterment of farming community.

Dr. Harpreet Singh, Agriculture Development Officer, Block Mahilpur urged the input dealers to work in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana to disseminate the recommended technologies among farmers.

The programme concluded with an interactive session during which the queries of fertilizer and seed dealers were answered satisfactorily and PAU literature was provided.
