S.I.R. Drive: BLOs to Complete Door-to-Door Form Filling from June 25, Says Ashika Jain

District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain today reviewed preparations for the Special Intensive Revision (S.I.R.) of electoral rolls being launched in Punjab by the Election Commission of India, in a meeting with representatives of various political parties. She said that under the schedule issued by the Commission, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit households across the district to have voters fill prescribed forms from June 25, 2026, to July 24, 2026.
The Deputy Commissioner said the entire process will be conducted with transparency, fairness and in accordance with prescribed rules, as per directions of the Election Commission, so that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral roll and ineligible names are removed. She clarified that under the S.I.R., it is mandatory for all voters to have the form provided by the BLO filled.
During the meeting, the District Election Officer said training for BLOs and all other preparatory work will be completed between June 15 and June 24, 2026. She added that under pre-S.I.R. mapping, mapping has been completed for 11,14,487 of the districts total 12,68,522 voters, representing 87.86 percent of the electorate. She said the rationalisation of polling stations will be completed by July 24, 2026, and the draft electoral roll will be published on July 31, 2026.
Claims and objections relating to the electoral rolls will be received from July 31 to August 30, 2026, and will be disposed of by September 28, 2026. After addressing all claims and objections, the final electoral roll will be published on October 1, 2026.
The District Election Officer appealed to all political parties in the district to cooperate with the administration to ensure the special exercise is completed successfully and transparently, to appoint their respective booth-level agents, and to encourage voters to make necessary documents available in time. Present at the meeting were Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Nikaas Kumar, Election Kanungo Lakhbir Singh, Jai Ram from Aam Aadmi Party, Rajneesh Tandon from Indian National Congress, Bhushan Kumar Sharma and Advocate Gaurav Garg from Bharatiya Janata Party, Gurinder Singh Goldy from Shiromani Akali Dal (B), Balwinder Kumar from Samaj Bhalai Morcha, and other representatives.
