India Faces Fuel Crisis Amid Global Oil Shortage, Modi Advises Conservation

India: The ongoing war in the Middle East has led to a severe fuel crisis in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the public to reduce the use of petrol and diesel along with other essential items. Amid this situation, India aims to increase crude oil imports from its ally Russia, but discussions suggest that the United States may be restricting these purchases. The dependence on foreign nations for crude oil, especially requiring permission from the US, is seen as a significant setback for India's economic growth and development.

Ganjam district's Bhanjanagar area is witnessing fuel shortages at various petrol pumps, resulting in long queues where two-wheelers are sold only 200 rupees worth of petrol after waiting for 30 minutes. This scarcity is causing difficulties for long-distance travel. Rural residents often travel 30 kilometers to the city for fuel, only to find their tanks empty before returning home, complicating unexpected travel. On the other hand, responding to Modi's call and economic constraints, some city dwellers have started commuting by bicycle instead of using two-wheelers.
