Petrol and Diesel Shortage Causes Panic in Jagatsinghpur

Jagatsinghpur, Odisha: A sudden shortage of petrol and diesel has caused concern among residents and commuters in Jagatsinghpur district. Several fuel stations have faced irregular supply over the past few days, leading to long queues outside petrol pumps, particularly near the industrial and port areas of Paradip. Vehicle owners rushed to refill their tanks amid fears of worsening scarcity.

Local residents reported that some fuel outlets either ran dry or limited sales to manage available stock. Commuters, transport workers, and small business owners expressed frustration over delays and uncertainty regarding fresh supplies. The shortage coincides with increased fuel demand across multiple districts in Odisha, including Khurda, Koraput, Sundargarh, and Nabarangpur, where rationing and long waiting lines have also been observed.

Industry insiders indicated that the situation stems from temporary supply disruptions and panic buying rather than actual depletion of fuel reserves. Officials from oil marketing companies and the Odisha government reassured the public that no statewide shortage exists. The government urged citizens against hoarding and appealed for calm, stating that supply from depots, including Paradip, continues and normalcy is expected soon. Transport operators warned prolonged disruption could impact goods movement and commuting, while residents demanded stricter monitoring to prevent black marketing and ensure steady supply.
