CBI Director Praveen Sood's Tenure Extended

New Delhi, May 14, AIMA Media Update News : Praveen Sood's tenure as the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been extended until May 2027. Praveen Sood's term was originally scheduled to conclude on May 24, 2026. On Wednesday, the Central Government approved a one-year extension of his tenure. According to official orders issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved this extension based on the recommendations of the selection committee.

Praveen Sood, an IPS officer belonging to the 1986 batch of the Karnataka cadre, will now continue to head this investigative agency for another year. The selection committee included the Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant. It is noteworthy that this decision regarding the extension was announced just one day after Rahul Gandhi submitted a two-page note of dissent during the meeting of the high-level selection panel led by Prime Minister Modi.
