National Art Exhibition Fragments of Epiphany Opens at AMU

ALIGARH, May 13: The National Art Exhibition, Fragments of Epiphany, was inaugurated at the Moinuddin Ahmad Art Gallery, Aligarh Muslim University, bringing together artists, academicians, students and art enthusiasts in a vibrant celebration of contemporary art and creative expression.

AMU Vice Chancellor Prof Naima Khatoon inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of distinguished guests including Vice Chancellor of Sir J. J. School of Art, Architecture and Design, Mumbai, Prof Him Kumar Chatterjee, former AMU Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Gulrez, Dean, School of Visual Arts, Delhi, Prof Rajan Shripad Fulari, Dea, Faculty of Arts, Prof T.N. Satheesan, Member Incharge, Public Relation Office, Prof Vibha Sharma, University Librarian Prof Nishat Fatima and Deputy Proctor, Prof Iffat Asghar.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Naima Khatoon said the exhibition would help foster artistic collaboration, creative dialogue and greater visibility for participating artists. Former Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Gulrez observed that such initiatives strengthen cultural engagement and support emerging artistic voices.

Prof Him Kumar Chatterjee highlighted the importance of exhibitions in encouraging experimental ideas and meaningful visual expression, while Prof Rajan Shripad Fulari said art serves as a transformative force capable of generating empathy and new perspectives.

The exhibition features artworks in watercolour, aquatint, oil, acrylic, photography, sculpture and installation art, with several interactive and conceptual works attracting visitors. Artists from different parts of the country, including Shrabani Dasgupta, Aswin Sathiyan, Sumit Shrivastava, Harsh Maurya, Rajni Arya, Mohammad Riyaz and Yash Bhopte, are participating in the exhibition.

A major attraction of the inaugural session was a performance art presentation by Faizullah Ahmad. The exhibition will also include performances by Sufi Yazdani and Aryan Pratap Singh, along with panel discussions featuring Bihan Das and Shamim Khan.

The exhibition has been curated under the supervision of Gallery Coordinator Prof Badar Jahan and showcases diverse contemporary artistic practices through paintings, photography, sculpture, installation art and mixed media works.

Prof Badar Jahan said the exhibition was envisioned not only as a display space but also as a platform for artistic exchange, inspiration and creative growth.
