On this day, May 13, 1951 CE, noted Indian freedom fighter and celebrated Urdu poet, Hasrat Mohani (real name Syed Fazl-ul-Hasan) died in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Graduated from Mohammadan Anglo-Oriental College (later Aligarh Muslim University) in 1903, Hasrat Mohani worked incessantly for the Indian independence movement and played various roles as a social activist, freedom fighter, politician, journalist, and poet.

Hasrat Mohani championed the Indian freedom struggle against the British Raj and also coined the most famous slogan of Indian history, 'Inquilab Zindabad', which translates to Long live the Revolution.
