Malerkotla: Preparations Underway for Urban Local Body Elections
Malerkotla: The administration is fully prepared to conduct the upcoming urban local body elections scheduled for May 26 in Malerkotla, Ahmedgarh, and Amargarh. Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Viraj S. Tirke announced that elections will be held across 61 wards, with 138 polling booths established to facilitate voting by approximately 127,807 voters. These voters include 66,622 males, 61,174 females, and 11 others.
Malerkotla district will see elections in 33 wards under Malerkotla Municipal Council, 17 wards under Ahmedgarh Municipal Council, and 11 wards under Amargarh Nagar Panchayat. Returning officers have been appointed, including SDM Malerkotla Kanu Garg, SDM Amargarh Harambs Singh, and Executive Engineer Punjab State Tubewell Corporation Malerkotla, Harminder Singh. The nomination filing period begins on May 13 and ends on May 16, with scrutiny on May 18 and withdrawal by May 19. Polling will take place from 8 AM to 5 PM on May 26, with counting on May 29. Candidates must adhere to spending limits and election codes of conduct as declared by the election commission.
