Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay Wins Floor Test In Assembly

Vijay Wins Floor Test In Assembly

Chennai, May 13, AIMA Media Update News: CM Vijay has successfully demonstrated his strength in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. In the floor test held today, 144 MLAs voted in favor of the ruling TVK party (the Tamil Nadu Assembly has a total strength of 234 members). Another 22 members voted against the motion, while five MLAs remained neutral. On this occasion, instead of a voice vote, the Speaker individually polled each member in the House to ascertain their support and officially recorded their votes. Meanwhile, the DMK boycotted this vote of confidence; 59 MLAs belonging to the DMK party staged a walkout. Consequently, the effective strength of the House decreased, and the 'magic number' (the majority mark required to win) was reduced accordingly. On the other hand, with rebel MLAs from the AIADMK lending their support, CM Vijay secured an easy victory in the floor test.

Speaking on this occasion, CM Vijay made several key remarks. He assured the House that his government would provide equal opportunities to everyone. He recalled that his party had entered the electoral fray placing its trust in the people. He asserted that people from all sections of society had faith in his leadership. He also extended his gratitude to everyone who had voted for his victory. Speaking on behalf of the rebel AIADMK MLAs who supported the TVK, senior leader Velumani stated that they were not aspiring for any ministerial posts. Responding to this, CM Vijay remarked that there was no need to resort to inducements or allurements to garner support.
