PM Modis Nation First Appeal Calls for Economic Discipline and Swadeshi Push

BHUBANESWAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a nationwide Nation First appeal, urging citizens to adopt lifestyle and consumption changes aimed at strengthening Indias economic resilience and reducing dependence on imports.

The campaign, promoted through the governments "MyGov India" platform, outlines seven key appeals focusing on self-reliance, sustainable living, and support for domestic industries.

The Prime Minister called upon citizens to embrace small but impactful changes, stating that collective public participation can significantly reduce pressure on the countrys economy during a period of global uncertainty.
According to local reports and customer accounts, petrol pumps in the city are currently dispensing fuel with temporary caps of 200 worth of petrol for two-wheelers and 1000 worth of petrol or diesel for four-wheelers.
Seven Key Appeals

Under the initiative, citizens have been urged to:

1. Prefer work-from-home options wherever possible to reduce fuel consumption and infrastructure burden.

2. Avoid purchasing gold for one year in an effort to reduce import expenditure and manage the trade deficit.

3. Use metro services and public transport instead of private vehicles to lower petrol and diesel consumption.

4. Reduce the use of cooking oil to improve public health and decrease edible oil imports.

5. Encourage natural farming and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers.

6. Prioritize Indian-made products and reduce reliance on foreign brands under the Vocal for Local initiative.

7. Avoid unnecessary foreign travel for one year to support domestic tourism and conserve foreign exchange.

Focus on Economic Stability

Government officials indicated that the initiative is designed to strengthen Indias economic foundation by reducing imports of high-value commodities such as crude oil, gold, edible oils, and fertilizers.

Economists note that India spends billions of dollars annually on such imports, and even moderate reductions in consumption could significantly improve foreign exchange reserves and help stabilize the rupee.

The campaign also aims to encourage domestic manufacturing, support local businesses, and create employment opportunities within the country.
