Voter List Irregularities: Government Bows to BJP Objections; Administration Thanks - Tikshan Sood

Former Cabinet Minister and senior BJP leader Tikshan Sood stated that significant irregularities were observed during the release of the draft voter lists for the Municipal Corporation. Around 200 people had raised objections against these discrepancies.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) submitted objections to the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur, and the State Election Commission, demanding clarification on whether the voter lists would be prepared according to the maps created by the corporation or the boundaries specified in the notification. He emphasized that if there is a discrepancy between the maps and the notification boundaries, the notification boundaries would prevail as the ward limits.
Following the administration's silence, a BJP delegation led by Tikshan Sood met the ADC (Development) and demanded immediate clarification for the public on the basis of the voter lists, enabling people to file objections accordingly. Sood alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had orchestrated these manipulations with malicious intent to rig the Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation elections.
However, due to the BJP's firm stance, the government eventually yielded. In a letter dated May 5, 2026, the State Election Commission directed the Hoshiarpur District Collector to prepare a fresh draft voter list and release it by May 18. Objections will be accepted from May 19 to May 25, 2026.
Sood described this as a major victory for the BJP, crediting the State Election Commission's swift action. He also expressed gratitude to the local district officials for providing accurate information to the Election Commission, which enabled steps to prevent voter list tampering.
