AAP Govt Fails to Build 6 Pending Bridges on Bist Doab Canal Despite Grants Released Under Congress Rule/ Ex-MLA Goldy

During the Congress government, we constructed eight bridges on the Bist Doab Canal at a cost of about Rs 2.5 crore, but six remained incomplete due to the change in government. The Congress regime had already released grants for these six bridges. Yet, over four and a half years of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, not a single one has been built.
These remarks were made by former MLA Lov Kumar Goldy while addressing villagers at Mohanwal village, standing on one of the bridges built during the Congress era.
Goldy recalled that, observing the hardships faced by villagers on both banks of the Bist Doab Canal due to narrow pathways across the canal, he had secured grants for around 14 bridges from the Congress government at an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 crore. Bridges were successfully built and upgraded from small paths to proper structures at locations including Rawalpindi, Mohanwal, Kitna, Raipur Gujjran, Possi, Binjon Gate, Binjon Hospital, and Pandori Ladda Singh to Binjon.
However, bridges connecting remaining villages such as Akalgarh, Mola Wahidpur, Fatehpur Khurd, Aiman Muglan, Aiman Jattan, and others could not be constructed due to the government change. Funds for these were released during the Congress tenure, but the AAP government has done nothing in its over four-and-a-half-year term. "They are busy merely putting up boards at sites for false publicity," Goldy alleged.
He demanded that the government immediately commence construction of all pending bridges to resolve the villagers' problems.
Local leaders present included Lakhhi, sarpanch of Mohanwal; Sarpanch Kashmir Singh; Sukhwindar Singh Kala of Lallian; Jhalman Singh; Suraj Khakh; Baljit Singh, former sarpanch; and Raghubir Singh.
