Another Setback For TVK Party Chief Thalapathy Vijay Governor Denies Permission To Form Government

Chennai, May 7 AIMA Media Update News: Another significant development has unfolded in Tamil Nadu politics. TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam) Chief Vijay has faced a setback once again. On Thursday, Vijay met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at the Lok Bhavan for the second time, seeking permission to form the government. However, it appears the Governor categorically stated that permission to form the government would not be granted, citing a lack of full numerical strength. Consequently, reports suggest that Vijay is now contemplating approaching the Supreme Court.

On Wednesday, TVK Chief Vijay, accompanied by several MLAs, met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at the Lok Bhavan to request permission to form the government. However, the Governor made it clear that he could not grant permission to form the government due to the absence of a clear numerical majority. Subsequently, on Thursday morning at 11:00 AM, TVK Chief Vijay met with the Governor at the Lok Bhavan once again. During this meeting, Vijay reiterated his request to the Governor for permission to form the government.

It appears that the Governor has rejected Vijay's plea once again. Reports indicate that the Governor firmly insisted that details regarding the support of 118 MLAs must be submitted in advance. It is understood that he stated he would not extend an invitation to form the government unless a clear majority is demonstrated. As a result, Vijay has faced disappointment yet again. It is reported that Vijay apprised the Governor of the fact that the TVK emerged as the leading party in the election results, having secured the highest number of seats, and stated that if given the opportunity to form the government, they would prove their legislative strength on the floor of the Assembly. However, reports suggest that the Governor firmly insisted that the party must demonstrate the support of 118 MLAs upfront. Vijay and other TVK leaders have expressed dissatisfaction with the Governor's stance. Against this backdrop, speculation is rife within Tamil political circles that Vijay is preparing to approach the Supreme Court.

The "magic figure" the minimum number of seats required to form a government in Tamil Nadu stands at 118. In the recent elections, the TVK secured 108 seats. However, since Vijay contested and won in two separate constituencies, his victory is counted as representing only one seat for the purpose of the legislative tally. Consequently, the TVK's effective strength in the Assembly is calculated at 107 MLAs. With the Congress party extending its support, the alliance now includes five MLAs from that party. Thus far, the TVK has garnered the support of 112 MLAs toward forming the government. Reports indicate that the VCK and CPI are also prepared to lend their support to a government led by Vijay. Furthermore, it is reported that several MLAs belonging to various other political parties have also expressed their willingness to support Vijay.
