West Bengal Election Validity Faces Serious Challenges

West Bengal: The legitimacy of the recent West Bengal elections has come under intense scrutiny, raising fundamental questions about the country's democratic process. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has highlighted two critical issues following the election results. The first concerns the validity of votes from 2.7 million voters who were removed from the Special Summary Revision (SSR) list. Despite appeals, no hearing was conducted to verify their legitimacy, effectively disenfranchising these voters. This exclusion potentially affected around 50 constituencies where the number of removed voters exceeded the victory margin. Justice Bagchi of the Supreme Court had earlier posed a crucial question regarding the implications if the victory margin was smaller than the number of disenfranchised voters.

The second issue was raised by TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, who revealed that during vote counting between 5 PM and 8 PM, TMC's agents were removed from counting centers and CCTV footage was turned off. This revelation has intensified concerns about the transparency and integrity of the counting process. Banerjee has demanded that the Election Commission provide the CCTV footage from that period. These two key issues, if presented before the Supreme Court, could have significant repercussions, validating the concerns previously expressed by Justice Bagchi regarding voter rights and election integrity.
