Under the directions of Food and Drug Administration Punjab Commissioner Smt. Kanwalpreet Kaur Brar (IAS) and Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur Smt. Ashika Jain (IAS), and under the guidance of Civil Surgeon Hoshiarpur Dr. Mandeep Kamal, food safety inspections are being carried out continuously in the district under the supervision of Dr. Jatinder Bhatia, Designated Officer-cum-District Health Officer.
As part of this drive, the food safety team on Tuesday early morning set up a special naka near the railway crossing on College Road, Phagwara, and later on the Sham ChaurasiJalandhar road, where six samples were collected from milk supply vehicles. These included four milk samples, one paneer sample and one khoya sample. All samples have been sent to the food laboratory in Kharar for testing.
Officials said that if any sample is found to be below standards or adulterated after the reports are received, strict legal action will be taken against the concerned vendors under the Food Safety and Standards Act. They stressed that no kind of adulteration in any food item will be tolerated, and action will be taken as per law in case any adulteration is found during inspection.
DHO Dr. Jatinder Bhatia and Food Safety Officer Vivek Kumar have also directed all Food Business Operators (FBOs) to ensure compliance with the mandatory registration and licensing requirements under FSSAI.
All FBOs have been strictly instructed to maintain proper hygiene and follow the standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act. The public has also been appealed to report any suspicion regarding the quality of food items to the health department or food safety officials.
The department said such strict and regular inspections will continue in order to ensure that consumers and the general public receive safe and quality food. Food Safety team member Ram Lubhaya was also present on the occasion.
