OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE LOCATION: Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir DATE: May 1, 2026 RLD CONDEMNS TARGETED DEMOLITION

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE LOCATION: Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir
DATE: May 1, 2026
RLD CONDEMNS TARGETED DEMOLITION OF GUJJAR-BAKARWAL SHELTERS IN RS PURA; DEMANDS IMMEDIATE ACCOUNTABILITY
JAMMU: Mohammad Anees Choudhary, General Secretary of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Jammu and Kashmir unit, today issued a scathing condemnation regarding the recent demolition of Gujjar and Bakarwal "kullas" (shelters) in the RS Pura sector.
In a powerful message addressed to the Government of India and the Jammu and Kashmir administration, Mr. Choudhary described the act as a "calculated conspiracy" against the tribal community and questioned the silence of the top leadership.
"Where will the Gujjar and Bakarwal community go? Today, these people are being rendered homeless in their own land. This is not just a demolition drive; it is a direct attack on the dignity and survival of our tribal brothers and sisters," stated Mohammad Anees Choudhary.
Strong Message to Leadership
The RLD General Secretary issued a direct appeal and warning to the following authorities:
To the Government of India: "The tribal communities of Jammu and Kashmir have always stood as the first line of defense for the nation. To treat them as encroachers and destroy their homes is a betrayal of the highest order."
To Chief Minister Sh. Omar Abdullah & Tribal Minister Sh. Javed Rana: "The people voted for a representative government to protect their rights. We demand to know why the administration is allowed to act with such high-handedness. Minister Javed Rana, as a representative of the tribal cause, must ensure that no more 'kullas' are touched without a comprehensive rehabilitation plan."
To the LG and Chief Secretary of J&K: "The administration must stop this selective targeting. If homes are being demolished, where is the alternative? We will not allow our youth to be marginalized or pushed to the wall by such administrative conspiracies."
Demands for Justice
Mr. Choudhary emphasized that the RLD will not remain a silent spectator to the suffering of the Gujjar-Bakarwal community. He noted with concern the history of violence and displacement faced by the community's youth and called for:
An immediate halt to all demolition drives in tribal pockets of Jammu.
A high-level inquiry into the RS Pura incident to identify the officers who ordered the demolition without prior notice or rehabilitation.
Compensation and Rebuilding: Immediate financial assistance to the affected families to rebuild their shelters.
"The Gujjar and Bakarwal community is the backbone of this region. If the government continues this conspiracy to weaken them, the Rashtriya Lok Dal will lead a massive protest from Jammu to Srinagar to ensure justice is served," Mr. Choudhary concluded.
