GMC Jammu Security Scandal: General Secretary Mohammad Anees Choudhary and Family Allegedly Harassed; Calls for Action Against ‘Security Gundaism’
JAMMU – A major controversy has erupted at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, Bakshi Nagar, following allegations of verbal abuse and harassment by private security personnel against Mohammad Anees Choudhary, General Secretary, and his family.
The Incident
The incident occurred when Mr. Choudhary visited the hospital to check on a patient. According to reports, he and his family were met with extreme hostility by both male and female private security guards. The guards reportedly used "foul and derogatory language" against the family, creating a scene of public humiliation within the hospital premises.
Allegations of Police-Security Nexus
The situation worsened when the matter reached the Police Post at Bakshi Nagar. Mr. Choudhary alleged that the police officers on duty displayed a blatant bias, refusing to listen to his side of the story.
"The police and the private security staff are working hand-in-hand," Mr. Choudhary stated. "The security guards—specifically identified as Tariq and Dawood, along with two others in civil clothes—threatened us, saying they would ‘kick our party out.’ Is this the behavior of those wearing the Khaki uniform or those hired to protect citizens?"
It is further alleged that a specific group of personnel, reportedly from District Baramulla, are operating with impunity, leading to claims of favoritism and a "nexus" that suppresses the grievances of visitors.
Appeal to Health Minister Sakina Ittoo
In a direct appeal to the Honorable Minister of Health, Sakina Ittoo, the aggrieved party has demanded a complete overhaul of the security system at GMC Jammu.
Key demands include:
Immediate Removal: The immediate termination of the private security guards involved in the harassment.
Policy Review: A demand to reconsider the deployment of female private security guards if they are found to be misusing their positions to harass families.
Accountability: A high-level inquiry into the Bakshi Nagar Police Post for their one-sided investigation and alleged shielding of the security staff.
Public Outcry
The incident has sparked outrage among the public, with many questioning why hospital visitors are treated like criminals by private contractors. Citizens are calling for "hospital-only" staff who are trained in basic ethics and public dealing, rather than private agencies that allegedly resort to "gundaism" and political threats.
As of now, the GMC Jammu administration and the office of the Health Minister have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
