Plane Crashes In South Sudan – 14 Dead


Juba, South Sudan, April 28, AIMA Media International Update News : A passenger aircraft crashed in the outskirts of Juba, the capital of South Sudan, killing all 14 people on board. The small aircraft a 'Cessna-208 Caravan' belonging to City Link Aviation met with the accident on Monday morning while traveling from Yei to Juba Airport. It crashed approximately 20 kilometers southwest of the capital, Juba. The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that everyone on board, including the pilot, perished in the crash. It has been reported that the deceased include two Kenyan nationals and 12 South Sudanese nationals. Officials stated that the aircraft took off at 9:43 AM local time, and contact with it was lost 30 minutes later. Preliminary reports suggest that adverse weather conditions and poor visibility were the causes of the tragic accident.

★ Details of the Crash

The accident occurred while the aircraft was en route from the town of Yei to Juba International Airport. The plane, which departed at 9:15 AM on April 27, lost radar contact just minutes before reaching its destination specifically at 9:43 AM. Subsequently, within a matter of minutes, the aircraft crashed in the outskirts of Juba city.

★ Adverse Weather Conditions Blamed for the Crash

Officials believe that adverse weather conditions were the primary cause of this accident. Preliminary investigations revealed that heavy fog during the flight significantly reduced visibility; as a result, the aircraft lost control and crashed. Immediately upon impact, massive flames erupted, completely engulfing and destroying the aircraft.

★ Details of the Deceased

Of the 14 people who perished in the crash, two were Kenyan nationals, while the remaining 12 were citizens of South Sudan. The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident. The recent frequency of aircraft accidents in the country has become a cause for concern.
