Six booked under PSA over student protest vandalism in Sopore


Sopore, Apr 24: Police booked six under the PSA in Sopore for alleged roles in law-and-order disruptions and vandalism during a student protest, they said Friday.
Officials said the detained individuals were accused of instigating unrest, damaging property and attempting to disturb public peace during the protest.
After obtaining detention warrants from the competent authority, all six were taken into custody and shifted to District Jail Bhadarwah.
They have been identified as Umar Akbar Hajam of Seelu, Salman Ahmed Shala of Shalpora Sopore, Altaf Ahmed Sheikh of Panzipora Tarzoo, Mubashir Ahmed Gilkar of Naseerabad Sopore, Muzammil Mushtaq Changa of Arampora Sopore, and Majid Firdous Dar of Chinkipora Sopore.
Police said further identification of other persons involved in the incidents is underway, and more legal action, including PSA detention, may follow.
Sopore Police said there will be zero tolerance for any unlawful activity that threatens peace and stability, warning that strict action will be taken against those attempting to exploit sensitive situations or disrupt public order.
They also appealed to the public, especially youth, to stay away from unlawful activities and not fall prey to instigation, while urging parents and community leaders to guide youngsters towards constructive engagement.
