RLD Leader Mohammad Anees Choudary Lambasts Govt Over Power Crisis Amid Scorching Heatwave in J&K
Srinagar/Jammu | April 23, 2026 – Mohammad Anees Choudary, State General Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) unit, today issued a scathing statement against the administration regarding the worsening power crisis in the Union Territory.
As a severe heatwave grips both divisions of Jammu and Kashmir, Choudary highlighted the "inhumane" conditions being faced by the public, particularly school-going children who are bearing the brunt of unscheduled power cuts.
Key Concerns Raised by RLD:
Impact on Students: Choudary emphasized that while temperatures are soaring, students are forced to sit in classrooms without fans or proper ventilation. "Our children are going to school in record-breaking heat, only to return to homes with no electricity. This is not just a policy failure; it is a threat to their health," he stated.
Infrastructure Failure: The RLD leader criticized the Power Development Department (PDD) for failing to provide a consistent power supply despite repeated assurances of infrastructure upgrades.
Health Risks: With the IMD predicting a further rise in temperatures, the State General Secretary warned that the combination of heat and lack of power for cooling could lead to a spike in heatstroke and dehydration cases among the elderly and the young.
Demands to the Administration:
Mohammad Anees Choudary has urged the Lieutenant Governor’s administration and the concerned department to take immediate action:
Stop Unscheduled Power Cuts: Ensure 24/7 power supply during peak afternoon hours to provide relief from the heat.
Adjust School Timings: The RLD unit demands that school timings be further shortened or shifted to earlier morning hours to ensure children are home before the peak heat begins.
Accountability: Choudary called for an immediate review of the power distribution strategy to prioritize residential and educational zones.
"The government cannot remain a mute spectator while the common man suffers. If the power situation does not improve immediately, the Rashtriya Lok Dal will be forced to take to the streets to protest this administrative apathy."
— Mohammad Anees Choudary, State General Secretary, J&K RLD.
