Punjab Government Yields to BSP's Campaign: Process to Remove Liquor Vend from Shri Khuralgarh Sahib Begins
Hoshiarpur/Daljeet Ajnoha/April 21
Reverse Decision to Convert Chang Vasoha Gurdwara into Panchayat House or Face Intensified Agitation: Dr. Karimpuri
The multi-month campaign by the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to preserve the sanctity and honour of the sacred land of Shri Khuralgarh Sahib—blessed by the footsteps of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji—achieved a major victory as the Punjab government, buckling under sustained BSP pressure, initiated the process to remove liquor vend from the area. In a statement issued today, BSP Punjab president Dr. Avtar Singh Karimpuri hailed it as a triumph of the devotion and resolve of the sangat (congregation) and party workers.
Key Highlights of the Campaign
Dr. Karimpuri outlined the BSP's relentless six-month struggle under the 'Punjab Sambhalo Muhim' (Save Punjab Campaign):
Mass Mobilisation: The party held meetings village by village, rallying public support to shut down the liquor vend.
Massive Protest: A large-scale demonstration of outrage in Garhshankar on April 18 left the administration rattled.
Administrative Action: Under BSP pressure, authorities arrested those guilty of desecrating Dr. Ambedkar's image and began removing the liquor vend in phases.
Direct Warning to Government
Dr. Karimpuri made it clear that the BSP is dissatisfied with the "phased removal" of the vend. He demanded:
Immediate and complete closure of all liquor vend and illegal outlets within Shri Khuralgarh Sahib's boundaries.
Immediate withdrawal of the Punjab government's decision to convert Chang Vasoha Guru Ravidas Gurdwara into a panchayat house—a move that crushes religious sentiments with state power.
Handover of the gurdwara keys to the Guru Ravidas naam leva sangat without delay.
"The government's policy reflects hatred towards Guru Ravidas Ji's philosophy. Until the vend are fully shut and Chang Vasoha Gurdwara is returned to the sangat, the BSP agitation will intensify. We will not rest until we end subjugation and realise the vision of Begampura," said Dr. Karimpuri.
The BSP announced that if the government fails to reverse its misguided policies, the issue will be taken to the "court of the people," exposing the state's anti-Guru stance.
