अदरक के पंजे के सूत्रधार बब्बन ख़ान नहीं रहे
हैदराबाद में आज मातम छाया हुआ है। अदरक के पंजे के क्रिएटर बब्बन ख़ान नहीं रहे।
पिछली सदी के आखिरी दशकों में उनके स्टेज शो का ऐसा जलवा था कि गिनीज बुक ऑफ़ रिकॉर्ड्स में भी इसे शामिल किया गया। हैदराबादी ह्यूमर से भरपूर इस शो में एक निम्न मध्यवर्गीय परिवार की हताशा, दुर्दशा और मनोदशा का चित्रण था। परिवार के मुखिया रामुसु अपनी गरीबी और अनियंत्रित परिवार की वजह से लगातार कर्ज में रहते हुए जिंदगी की चिखचिख से परेशान हाल रहे। यह शो छोटा परिवार सुखी परिवार का संदेश देता था।
बब्बन खान ने अपने पिता और परिवार की कहानी कोई मजेदार अंदाज में पेश किया था। आठ भाई-बहनों के परिवार में बब्बन ख़ान अपने मां-बाप की अकेली संतान के रूप में बचे रहे। 10 की उम्र तक तो उनका नाम भी नहीं रखा गया था। मां-बाप ने सोचा था कि जिंदा रहेगा तो नाम रख देंगे।
बब्बन ख़ान ने अपने खस्ताहाल परिवार की यह तंजिया कहानी रात भर में एक लैंप पोस्ट के नीचे बैठकर लिखी। मां का इकलौता गहना बेचकर शो की व्यवस्था की। शो के दो टिकट देकर दर्जी से अपनी शेरवानी सिलवाई। पहला शो नाकाम रहा, लेकिन किसी प्रशंसक ने नेपथ्य में जाकर उन्हें ₹500 दिए और कहा कि शो जारी रखना।
धीरे-धीरे यह शो हैदराबाद से देश के अनेक शहरों से होता हुआ विदेश के शहरों में भी धूम मचाता रहा। 10,000 से अधिक इसके शो हो चुके थे।
स्टैंड अप कॉमेडी के चलन में आने के बहुत पहले बब्बन ख़ान ने घरेलू और पारिवारिक हंसी-मजाक का ऐसा पुलिंदा पेश किया था कि दर्शक हंसते-हंसते बेहाल हो जाते थे।

The family head, Ramusu, was perpetually in debt due to his poverty and an uncontrollable family, constantly harassed by the struggles of daily life. The show conveyed the message that a small family is a happy family.Babban Khan had presented the story of his father and family in a highly entertaining and satirical style. In a family of eight brothers and sisters, Babban Khan was the only surviving child of his parents. His name was not even given to him until he was 10 years old. His parents had thought they would name him only if he survived.Babban Khan wrote this poignant and humorous story of his struggling family in one night, sitting under a lamp post. He sold his mother’s only piece of jewellery to arrange the show. He got his sherwani stitched by giving the tailor two show tickets. His first performance was a failure, but a fan came backstage and gave him ₹500, encouraging him to continue the show.Gradually, the show became a huge success, moving from Hyderabad to many cities across the country and even to cities abroad. More than 10,000 performances of the show were staged.Long before stand-up comedy became a trend, Babban Khan presented such a rich bundle of domestic and family humour that audiences would be left rolling with laughter and exhausted from laughing.Salute to the genius of Babban Khan!
