Feminists of Lucknow ko Salam’ at Sanatkada’s Lucknow

11.4.26: The sixth edition of the exhibition ‘Feminists of Lucknow ko Salam’ at Sanatkada’s Lucknow Bioscope recently served as an immersive classroom for M.A. Semester 4 students of Karamat Husain Muslim Girls' PG College. This offered a profound journey into the city’s intellectual heritage. The exhibition featured a striking archaic wall where a map of the region was reimagined through a web of photos connected by wool, tracing the intricate social and literary networks of the women featured in the exhibition . A poignant installation involving a Purdah artistically depicted the 'zenana section', challenging traditional perceptions of domestic seclusion by highlighting it as a space of vibrant female agency. Students were invited to engage with the legacies of pioneers like Rashid Jahan and Ismat Chughtai in a dedicated reading nook, while a curated showcase of personal belongings—including artifacts from the legendary Begum Akhtar—brought the creative masters to life. The experience was further heightened by a digital interface where tablets and headphones allowed visitors to hear the original voice notes of these writers, bridging the temporal gap between the historic literary past and the modern student.
