FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RLD Leader Mohammad Anees Choudhary Urges J&K Administration to Restore Transport Services for Nomadic Communities
JAMMU/SRINAGAR – Mohammad Anees Choudhary, General Secretary of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Jammu and Kashmir unit, has raised a high-level concern regarding the plight of the nomadic Gujjar and Bakarwal communities. He criticized the current administration for the sudden withdrawal of vehicular support, leaving thousands of families and their livestock stranded during their seasonal migration.
A Crisis on the Move
Traditionally, the Jammu and Kashmir government provided transportation facilities to assist these nomadic tribes in moving their livestock between the highland pastures and the plains. However, the suspension of these services has forced the community to undertake the grueling journey on foot.
Key issues highlighted by Choudhary include:
Livestock Mortality: Due to unpredictable and harsh weather conditions, a significant number of cattle and sheep are dying along the trekking routes.
Economic Ruin: For the Gujjar and Bakarwal people, their livestock is their only asset. The loss of animals translates directly into poverty.
Human Suffering: Forcing elders, women, and children to walk hundreds of kilometers in extreme weather is a violation of basic welfare.
"The nomadic community is the backbone of our livestock economy, yet they are being treated with utter neglect. In the past, the government provided trucks to ensure a safe transition. Today, they are left at the mercy of the elements. We demand immediate justice and the restoration of transport facilities."
— Mohammad Anees Choudhary, General Secretary, RLD J&K
Demand for Immediate Action
The RLD J&K unit has called upon the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to intervene immediately. Choudhary emphasized that "justice for the nomads" is not just a request but a necessity to prevent a humanitarian and economic crisis.
The RLD is demanding:
Immediate deployment of trucks at key migration checkpoints.
Emergency veterinary aid along the traditional migration routes.
Compensation for families who have lost their livestock due to the lack of transport during recent weather spikes.
The party warned that if the government fails to address these grievances, the community will be forced to intensify their protests to seek the justice they deserve.
