RLD General Secretary Slams Power Crisis in J&K; Demands Immediate Infrastructure Overhaul
JAMMU/SRINAGAR – Mohammad Anees Choudhary, the General Secretary of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Jammu and Kashmir unit, has issued a scathing statement addressing the persistent and worsening power crisis across the Union Territory.
Choudhary highlighted that despite the transition from winter to spring, residents continue to suffer from erratic power supplies, with daily outages ranging from 2 to 7 hours.
Infrastructure Neglect in Local Communities
Beyond the macro-level shortage, Choudhary brought to light a specific, harrowing example of infrastructure neglect affecting local households. In one highlighted sector, a single transformer is situated over 850 meters away from a cluster of 20 homes.
"It is unacceptable that in this modern era, 20 households are forced to rely on a transformer nearly a kilometer away. We have only seven poles spanning this 850-meter distance, leading to dangerous wire sagging and massive voltage drops," Choudhary stated.
Key Issues Raised:
Persistent Outages: Systematic power cuts lasting up to 7 hours daily since the onset of winter.
Hazardous Wiring: The current setup of poles and wires is described as substandard and a "makeshift" arrangement that poses a risk to life and property.
Voltage Instability: Due to the extreme distance from the power source, appliances are frequently damaged, and basic lighting is unreliable.
The Demand: "Set New Transformers Now"
The RLD leader has formally called upon the Power Development Department (PDD) and the UT Administration to intervene immediately.
The RLD’s specific demands include:
Installation of a New Transformer: A dedicated transformer must be installed within the immediate vicinity of these 20 homes to ensure stable voltage.
Upgrading the Grid: Replacement of outdated poles and high-tension wires that currently stretch across 850 meters of unsupported terrain.
Accountability for Power Schedule: An immediate end to unscheduled power cuts that have crippled daily life and local businesses.
"The people of Jammu and Kashmir pay their bills and deserve dignity," Choudhary concluded. "We will not remain silent while our citizens are kept in the dark due to administrative apathy and crumbling infrastructure."
