His Highness Brigadier Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh, MVC, of Jaipur, lived a life of many roles, as a soldier, a custodian, and a guiding force behind Jaipur’s cultural presence on the global stage.

A Mahavir Chakra awardee for his service during the Indo-Pak War of 1971, he served with distinction in the Indian Army for many years. In later years, he turned his attention to preserving and sharing Jaipur’s heritage, opening spaces like Jaigarh (@jaigarh) to the public in 1983, and strengthening the foundations of City Palace, Jaipur (@jaipurcitypalace) while expanding its cultural dialogue with the world.

The Jaipur we encounter today, in many ways, reflects his vision. On his death anniversary, we remember him, and all that he shaped, guided, and brought to the city.

P S. His daughter is presently Deputy Chief minister of Rajasthan.
