‘Gold Hunt’ Begins in West Singhbhum as Drilling Starts Across 1900 Hectares

Jamshedpur: Exploration activities to locate gold reserves have commenced in West Singhbhum district following preliminary findings by the Geological Survey of India (GSI). The Directorate of Geology has initiated drilling operations across an estimated 1900 hectares in the Jonko Bharandia of gold reserves in the region, prompting detailed geological investigations. The current drilling process aims to confirm the quantity and viability of the deposits. Authorities stated that multiple sites within the identified area are being examined to ensure accurate assessment.

If commercially viable reserves are confirmed, the government plans to demarcate the area into mining blocks, which will later be auctioned for extraction activities.

In addition to gold exploration, surveys in nearby areas such as Giridih have also revealed the presence of copper and other associated minerals, including zinc, cobalt, chromium, and nickel, which are considered valuable industrial resources.

Officials from the geology department noted that the exploration work began earlier this month and is expected to continue for the next two to three months. Further decisions regarding mining operations will be taken based on the final survey results.
