CISF Nalco Damanjodi Commemorates 17th Anniversary of Historic Naxal Attack Repulse

Damanjodi (Koraput), April 12: In a poignant ceremony today, the CISF Unit at Nalco Damanjodi paid heartfelt homage to its bravehearts who, 17 years ago on this very day, thwarted a ferocious armed Naxal attack on the strategically vital NALCO explosive magazine.

The incident unfolded on April 12, 2009, when heavily armed Naxal insurgents launched a brazen assault aimed at looting and sabotaging the magazine and disrupting operations at the National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) in Odisha's restive Koraput district. Displaying unparalleled courage and professionalism, CISF personnel engaged the attackers in intense combat, preventing any breach and safeguarding critical national assets.

Ten valiant jawans made the supreme sacrifice in this hour of trial, their selfless actions embodying the motto "Protection & Security." Their heroic stand not only neutralized the threat but also sent a strong message against Maoist violence in the region.

In recognition of this exemplary bravery, the unit was bestowed with 22 prestigious Gallantry Medals: six President's Police Medals for Gallantry (PPMG) and 16 Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG). These awards stand as a testament to the unit's indomitable spirit.

Unit commander Sh Satya Dev Arya, led the wreath-laying ceremony, attended by NALCO officials, and Sanrakshika Members. "Their sacrifice reinforces CISF's role as the vanguard of industrial security," he remarked.

This annual tribute reaffirms the nation's gratitude to these unsung heroes, whose legacy continues to fortify India's fight against internal threats.
