Current global sanitation systems follow a 'linear model', where biogenic nutrients are taken up from the soil through grains and discharged into water bodies. This paper proposes an alternative 'cyclical model' of this process. The argument is that instead of treating human excreta as "nuclear waste" or disposable waste, it should be treated as aBiogeochemical resourcesInstead of dumping it into rivers or burying it deep, it is essential to recycle it through surface dehydration and atmospheric exposure. This process not only restores soil fertility but also ensures the micronutrient quality of the grain, which depends on the balance between atmospheric elements and soil nutrients.
